St Ita

Pastor's Welcome

On behalf of the Franciscan friars and the people of Saint Ita Church, I welcome you to this website.  I hope that you will find the information that you are seeking and, if this is not already your spiritual home, I hope that you will find your way here.

St. Ita Church is beautiful in many ways.  The building itself, with its soaring French Gothic architecture and luminous stained glass windows, raises the soul to God.  Through our liturgies, sacraments, devotional life and celebration of Catholic culture, we seek to draw closer to the Lord through the splendor of prayer.

But the beauty of St. Ita Church is not limited to the building— it is just as visible in hearts of our parishioners.  We are reputed to be the most diverse parish in all of Chicago. Our community is an international tapestry of cultures, spiritualties, and fellowship in the Lord Jesus.

Our priests are Franciscan friars and they bring with them an 800 year old spiritual tradition of reconciliation and outreach rooted in the Holy Eucharist.  St. Ita Church strives to be a Catholic presence in relationship with all our neighbors of Edgewater, Uptown and Andersonville, offering the hope and joy of Christ Jesus to those whom we encounter.

May you find what you are looking for – whether that is a time for an event, a way to get involved, or a place to be this Sunday – on this site and at St. Ita!  May the blessing of Almighty God, through the intercession of Saint Ita and Saint Francis of Assisi, be upon you.

Father Bob Cook, OFM Conv.
